Luxury rail arrives in Ireland

by Janice Burmaz July 09, 2016

Ireland can be seen in a whole new way from August 2016 when the Belmond Grand Hibernian, the new Celtic sister to the Belmond Royal Scotsman becomes the first luxury touring train in Ireland.

The first journey will be a four-night tour of the Republic of Ireland: ‘Legends and Loughs’. Travelling from Cork to Killarney, Galway and Westport – highlights include behind the scenes tour of Jameson’s Whiskey distillery, ‘kissing’ the Blarney Stone and private access to Blarney Castle Gardens.

Accommodating just 40 passengers in elegant ensuite cabins, the train has observation and two dining cars from which to gaze out to the green Irish countryside. As an added touch, carriages each reflect the colours of the tartans from the county after which they are named.
